Summer Shakespeare '08: The Tempest
Wednesday 11th June - Saturday 14th June, Fellow's Garden, Durham Castle
In July 2008 Castle Theatre Company will bring all the magic and surreal comedy of Shakespeare’s masterpiece The Tempest to some of southern England’s most beautiful venues in this its landmark 30th national tour.
A tranquil sea. A ship of masters and servants. Out of the blue, a storm erupts. They miraculously survive and find themselves on an island ruled by the mysterious magician Prospero. Why are they there? Who is Prospero? What is the purpose of his magic powers?
Shakespeare’s last play transports us from our real world to a mystical place where something rich and strange awaits. Filled with beautiful poetry, surreal comedy and deeply felt emotion, The Tempest possesses an enduring enchantment. In an exciting new production from Castle Theatre Company, music and dance will combine to recreate all the magic and poignancy of Shakespeare’s final farewell to the stage.
Already described in 2005 as ‘simply a class apart’ and in 2006 as ‘visually stunning and impeccably acted’ (d21), Castle Theatre Company’s Summer Shakespeare Tour promises to be the theatrical highlight of the summer.
Bring a rug, bring a picnic, and let us liberate your senses.
