The renowned Castle Theatre Company presents Peter Weiss' epic "The Persecution and Assasination of Jean-Paul Marat as performed by the inmates of the Chanteron Asylum under the Supervision of the Maquis de Sade".
The Marquis de Sade is directing a show in a Parisian asylum, using the inmates as actors. The play follows the planning and execution of the brutal murder of revolutionary leader Jean-Paul Marat at the hands of rebel Charlotte Corday, handling subjects as diverse as religion, sexuality, politics and philosophy.
A show that combines song, dance, philosophy and incredible visual dynamics will come to life in Durham Castle's stunning Great Hall. With a large cast, experienced production team and the full resources of one of Durham's oldest and most respected theatre companies, the show promises to be the theatrical highlight of 2007.
