Who are we?
We are the official theatre company of University College, Durham. Castle Theatre Company is one of the oldest theatre companies in Durham, and one of the few college companies who recruit talent from across the whole University. Set amidst the grounds of Durham's beautiful and ancient Castle, the company has produced theatre of the highest quality for nearly three decades, and will continue to do so for years to come.
What do we do?
As a company we have always sought to represent in our work the broad spectrum of British and International theatre throughout the ages. Besides a history of producing intimate and highly detailed pieces, we also seek to push the boundaries and create, once a year, a piece of extraordinary and epic proportions, with large casts and fantastic settings. In addition, we hold strong to a 28-year-old tradition of producing a “Summer Shakespeare” performance, which offers outdoor theatrical entertainment in the gardens of Castle - the perfect way to unwind after the exams in Easter term. The lucky cast then tour the South of England, visiting stately homes and large estates to perform to dedicated audiences across the country.
How to get involved
We seek to employ student talents in all theatrical disciplines - sourcing the finest student directors, stage managers, technical crews and publicists, besides, of course, the cream of Durham's acting talent. Keep checking this site for details of upcoming auditions, and available positions for production crew. Failing that, why not come along and see a show!
